First Days

Mary Grace's First Day of 3rd Grade
August 30th

Miller's First Day of 4-Year Old Preschool
September7th
Always love starting school with a black eye!
Miller was pretty sure the kids would assume he's a "real football player" since he looked so tough.

Big school news for us this year. We decided to put Mary Grace in a new school. She attends Greyfriar Academy all day on Tuesdays. The school is Christian with a classically based, very intense curriculum. They start every morning with a short prayer service and then run through all of the different courses.

The rest of the week Mary Grace self-studies. It's designed to be like college and allows the kids SO much more free time and flexibility. So far we are loving it! Mary Grace does really well getting her work done and she really enjoys the school and all her new friends. We work together to set up her schedule for the week. She has a syllabus for each subject so it's easy for us to know what's expected of her.

Lots of factors played into us deciding to try this out for the year. It's not necessarily long term- we're taking life one year at a time. But honestly, it's been great and so far we are loving it more than we could have even imagined.

Miller is back at First Baptist for the 3rd year. He is across the hall from last year's classroom and thinks he's so cool now that he's in the 4-year old room. He goes to school on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday morning. And then Miller goes to BSF with me on Tuesday.

I just started my 3rd year as a BSF leader. My leadership training meetings are on Monday when Miller is at school. We looked into several possibilities for Mary Grace and decided on doing "camp" at the Y. They offer tons of classes for homeschoolers and we selected all fun ones. She picked- Knitting, Music, Art, and Nature Study (and she gets a lunch/recess.) She absolutely loves camp and looks forward to being there every Monday! She also started Girls on The Run and does that every Monday and Wednesday.

It's a crazy life, but I LOVE our new schedule!!
