The Beach- Getting Started

Hilton Head Island
August 1st - 8th
We spent an amazing week in Hilton Head and I have NO idea where to start with all the pictures! We took a million pictures and unfortunately they are all mixed up on several devices (our nice camera, our phones, and others phones/cameras.) I decided to just get started posting the pictures and not worry so much about grouping them or putting them in order.

And- to prove my point (and help me eliminate the stress over having them in some great order...) here is a picture from our last night in Hilton Head.
These 7 grandchildren had the best week at the beach together, and with their Pops and Mimzie!
Owen (13), Reed (10 months), Cole (9), Mary Grace (7), Blair (5), Linley (3) and Miller (3)
First night tradition at NY Pizza
And the best thing happened this year- we realized the kids were old enough for a "kids table." It was fantastic!
Brent and I got up almost every morning for a 3+ mile walk on the beach. Our first couple mornings there were lots of volunteers of kids who wanted to go with us, but their enthusiasm dwindled as they realized we weren't messing around!

Love the clouds/colors in this picture!
 Ready to hit the beach!
Our house this year had a pretty long boardwalk through the seagrass and down to the beach. It made for a beautiful setting!
Miller, Linley, Blair and Mary Grace
Linley and Miller were best buddies all week. I have a million cute pictures of the two of them!
Mary Grace, Blair, Linley and Miller dug this huge hole on the first day. They spent a long time trying to fill it with water to make it a hot tub, only to realize it wouldn't actually ever fill. So then they changed the plan and decided it would be a mud bath.
It was all fun and games until Miller peed in the hole (again, this was the first day. Prior to our trip, I had gone over the "rule" with Miller- no peeing in the pool, but you can pee at the beach. I realized quickly that I needed to clarify! Ha!)
Nothing better than reading a good book at the beach!

Owen, Blair (who did a fabulous job pretending to read all week!), Mary Grace and Mimzie
All summer I bribed Miller with the promise of a new toy for the beach if he learned to swim. A few weeks before the beach I took him to Toys R US and he picked out this whale. He was SO excited! But, as it turned out...he didn't really like it all that much once it was blown up. Miller enjoyed having it near the pool, but not actually IN the pool. During nap time we let Mary Grace play with it!

Miller's favorite beach activity was playing with his trucks in the sand. Several days we built him some pretty cool "monster truck tracks." They got more and more elaborate as the week went on, but honestly he was content with just a wide stretch of sand and his truck!

One day Cole found a ton of Sand Dollars. He specifically got 1 for each cousin to take home, but Mary Grace did not want hers to die. She kept hers in a bucket in the bathroom all week (and got it fresh ocean water each day.) She was definitely under the impression that we were going to let her keep it, so it was a little heartbreaking when she had to release "Sandy" back into the ocean.

I promised her I would take pictures so she could remember her!
 Sweet Sandy
LOVED our morning walks! It was always the prettiest, most peaceful time of day!

 Miller and Owen
Of all the kids, Miller logged the most miles with Brent and me. He really did walk/run most of the time, but occasionally he hopped a ride!

My little baseball loving boy was so happy to have so many willing catchers all week!
 Linley and Miller
We have taken this same picture every summer since Miller and Linley were 6 months old! So sweet!

One night we rode our bikes over to a brand new playground

Miller thought he was so funny and brave and asked me to take this picture...
Not to be outdone by her little brother...
While we were at the playground we ran into some of our friends from Lexington.
Braden and Mary Grace were in school together for 3 years and their family also went to our church. I will never forget that he used to call her Mary Grace Grace because she told him that her middle name was Grace so he assumed Grace was also her last name!
It was SO great to see our friends!
 Lots more pictures to come!
